Nakusp Creations, country style furniture, woodturning and fabric arts
Kaslo Summit 2011
A small, one man wood working company located in Nakusp British Columbia Canada specializing in Country Style furniture, Reproduction furniture, Vintage items, Restoration and Custom wood turning. I learned about furniture and wood turning while living in New Zealand for thirteen years. Over the years I have worked in joinery shops and as a custom wood turning contractor making newel posts, ballusters, table legs etc. for the restoration and repair market. All of my wood turnings are manually turned on the lathe and unique, as a result I can re-create almost any old or vintage spindle pattern.
I developed a love of solid wood furniture in traditional designs. Most of my work is what I personally like or custom to meet the needs of my customers. Living in the West Kootenays of British Columbia, on the shores of Arrow Lake I am surrounded by an abundance of local wood. I prefer to source local wood from the Kootenays, when possible, and also salvage when practical.
My furniture is hand crafted and finished with non-toxic paints, urethane and wax. I finish in natural, stained or distressed paint. Finish can be of a stain or colour of your choice. For specialty orders I usually ask for the number of a colour chip from a paint company and then finish to the colour requested. Some people gave me a photo of an item they wanted and I built to that photo. Others have requested different measurements to fit a particular space. I work with my customers to try to make them happy with my furniture so they will come back and also refer me to friends and family. Ask about
I enjoy making fine furniture and I sell at as fair a price as will pay for my business needs. Some of the items I make are up to 50% lower cost than comparable items in expensive stores. This is because I sell at a wholesale price and then the store marks it up by as much as 100%. This means my products take longer to sell and neither I or my end customer benefit. If you have something you are interested in or if you see something in my gallery that you like please contact me and I would be happy to work out a price.
Thank you,
Mike McCallum
